It’s a long way from Kickstarter to Park City, but that’s where Zach Braff is going next month. The Sundance Film Festival said today that the Braff-directed Wish I Was Here has been added to its Premiere selection. This is the first crowd-funded film picked for a World Premiere in the Sundance section and joins 17 previously announced films in the sidebar for the January 16-26 festival. The sure-to-attract-attention comedy-drama about a struggling zach braff directingthirtysomething actor seeking meaning in his life and marriage after the death of his father stars Braff, Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad, Ashley Greene and Joey King. The former Scrubs actor co-wrote the screenplay with his brother and raised more than $3.1 million for it in a somewhat controversial Kickstarter campaign this spring. Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg produced the pic through their Double Feature Films. Worldview Entertainment stepped in to provide gap financing.

You know the story: Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Girl dies and comes back as a zombie.

Well, that’s the story of Burying the Ex, a new romantic zombie comedy, or zom-com, as the cast and crew call it, starring Ashley Greene (Twilight) and Anton Yelchin (Star Trek). EW was on set for an exclusive first look and a chance to talk with the stars and director.

Burying the Ex follows Max (Yelchin), an all-around nice guy, and his incredibly beautiful but overbearing and manipulative girlfriend Evelyn (Greene). After they move in together, Evelyn is killed in a freak accident, leaving Max single and free from her controlling nightmare — or so he thinks.

“Her boyfriend has his mourning period, but then gets over it,” Greene said. “Much to his dismay, she comes back as a zombie but doesn’t clock that she is a zombie and thinks that true love has brought her back and that they’re supposed to be together forever.” Though Greene is best known for playing another supernatural creature, the Twilight comparisons pretty much end there. “It’s a lot different, ’cause I think in Twilight we are trying to get into humanity and hide the secret that we have. The fun thing about this film and with Evelyn is that when she comes back, she’s got no boundaries and no filter. It’s a lot more outrageous, not that vampires aren’t farfetched.”

“When she returns as a zombie, she’s a thousand times worse and more controlling,” Yelchin told EW. To prepare for the genre film, Yelchin watched classic undead movies like White Zombie and Night of the Living Dead , but noted that working with Gremlins director Joe Dante made it special. “When I think of this movie, I think of it as more of a Joe Dante film than a genre movie, because he’s always represented a very specific take on genre and he’s always created genre films that were always aware of their genre.”

Ashley filmed a death scene on the set of her new flick “Burying the Ex” in Los Angeles on Monday and she looked pretty messed up as she crawled around with fake blood on her face after a freak accident.

A glass to the door tells me Anton Yelchin (“Star Trek”) and Ashley Greene (“Twilight”) are headed to Romero-territory for Joe Dante’s newie “Burying the Ex”.

Not surprisingly, considering Dante’s back-catalog (“The Hole 3D”, “Gremlins”, “The Burbs”, “Innerspace”), the movie will encompass a funny but fantastical, and likely sometimes frightening storyline.

Max and Evelyn’s relationship takes a nosedive after they decide to move in together and Evelyn turns out to be a controlling, manipulative nightmare. Max realizes it’s time to call it quits, but there’s just one problem: He’s too afraid to break up with her. Fate steps in when Evelyn is involved in a freak accident and dies, leaving Max single and ready to mingle. Several weeks later, he has a chance encounter with Olivia, a cute and plucky girl who just might be his soul mate. But that same night, Evelyn returns from the grave as a dirtsmeared corpse and she’s determined to get Max back…even if that means turning him into one of the undead.

Yelchin (back in “Fright Night” territory”) and Greene (a regular presence in the tween supernatural flick these days) will be joined by a third, as-yet uncast lead.

Some unfortunate news for our dear Ashley.

She lost her home and a precious pooch when her apartment went up in flames in March, and now, Ashley is being sued by fellow residents of the building.

According to a report from TMZ, the Ashley was named in a lawsuit filed by the West Hollywood building’s doorman, who claims he was injured while alerting residents to the blaze.

The fire began in Greene’s apartment when a candle set the living room on fire, which destroyed her unit and caused smoke and water damage to neighboring ones.

In addition to the doorman, she is being sued by four residents claiming damages to their property from soot and water.

Ashley was spotted out and about handling some business in Encino on November 12th. The photos have been added to the gallery.
